  Tell A Friend!

On Tuesday, March 24, 2009, Daniel Hannan, a relatively unknown member of the European Parliment from Southern England, gave a speech to Parliment that lasted little more than 3 minutes.  This speech could well become the defining moment when the world woke up to the craziness that is being thrust upon us by leaders who are desparate for a solution to the global economic crisis, but short on wisdom.  If Hannan did wake up on Tuesday morning known to few in England, Europe and the world, it will likely be the last day he remains obscure because he had the guts to tell the whole world that leaders who believe printing money, borrowing and spending will solve our problems are simply delusional.

Here is perhaps the most important part of what Daniel Hannan said to British Prime Minister Gordon Brown that:

You cannot carry on forever squeezing the productive bit of the economy in order to fund an unprecedented engorgement of the unproductive bit.  You cannot spend your way out of recession or borrow your way out of debt.

Talk about telling the emperor he isn’t wearing any clothes!  It was purely brilliant!  And Neil Cavuto, who interviewed Hannan on March 25, 2009 on his FOX News show – Your World – summed up exactly why it is that Hannan’s comments to Brown have become so wildly popular. Cavuto explained: “You seem to articulate in a few minute speech what others have spending days, weeks and months whining about.”

Here is what Hannan had to say when speaking with Sean Hanity on March 26, 2009 on Hanity’s FOX News show:

It’s common sense that when you are in debt you spend less.  Anybody but a politician can see that.  Anyone can see that in their private life.  You run up to big a debt, you run up too big a mortgage,  you try and sort it out, but if you are either a banker or a politician you have a different take on these things because it isn’t your money.

Bravo Mr. Hannan!  I sincerely hope this lights a fire under all of us who know you are right.  I have been telling everyone I know that borrowing money and spending is ridiculous when you are broke, and that if individuals continued to engage in such nonsense it would lead us straight into bankruptcy.  It is refreshing to see a young politician like yourself who gets it, is articulate and who can inspire others to stand up for what we know to be right and true.
